The use of premium intraocular lenses (IOLs) allows you to achieve a high degree of freedom from spectacles following Refractive Lens Exchange or Cataract Surgery.
Multifocal Intra Ocular Lenses
Multifocal (MF) IOLs are used to allow clear vision, without glasses, in the distance as well as at near and in between. Modern MF IOLs are advanced enough to permit very good vision at these distances but good lighting is required when reading very small print. Some people still like to wear weak powered magnifying reading glasses for very fine print, especially in dark situations, but most enjoy a high degree of spectacle freedom.
Modern Multifocal IOLs have a Trifocal design. This means they can focus on objects at three different distances - distant, arm's length (intermediate) and near. These IOLs allow each eye to see at these three distances at the same time. Each eye works independently but both eyes also work together. Just like other multifocal IOLs, there will be some glare and reduced contrast with these types of IOLs, but they can successfully reduce or eliminate the need for eye glasses.
.These IOLs offer a smooth transition from distance to nearer objects and doing so allows them to have less issues with glare and haloes around lights seen at night. Therefore they are more suitable for those sensitive to glare or those who more often need to drive at night. Reading or Near glasses are more likely to be required with EDOF IOLs
Toric IOLs are designed to treat astigmatism and the toric power can be combined with MF, Trifocal and EDOF IOLs in a Toric Multifocal, Toric Trifocal or Toric EDOF IOLs
